Public Liability, PAT Testing and DBS

When it comes to booking professional entertainment it is always worth checking if the supplier has Public Liability, PAT Tested Equipment and DBS Checked Staff. Some venues where clients are hosting events will ask for 3 certificates for proof of each of these. BP Sounds fully for-fills all 3 of these areas and our certificates are available upon request. But what exactly do these 3 points mean?

Public liability insurance is one of the main types of business insurance. It can cover compensation payments and legal costs if a member of the public (maybe a customer, a supplier, or a passerby) sues your business because they’ve been injured or their property has been damaged. In the highly unlikely event of any accidental injuries BP Sounds is fully insured giving both clients and venues peace of mind.

Portable appliance testing (PAT) is the term used to describe the examination of electrical appliances and equipment to ensure they are safe to use. This means that the professional sound and lighting equipment BP Sounds provides at events has been fully checked and is safe to the public.

A DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, once known as the CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check, is becoming more and more important when working within the entertainment industry. A growing number of positions will request all candidates to have a valid DBS certificate before starting their job. The Disclosure and Barring Service helps employers make safer recruitment decisions and prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups. The staff at BP Sounds are DBS Checked.
